What is concussion?
Concussion is a traumatic brain injury typically resulting from a blow to the head or body which results in forces being transmitted to the brain. The symptoms can present immediately and be short-lived or the onset of symptoms may be delayed and start to occur sometime after the initial injury.
Our safeguarding
Our players will be taken off the pitch / out of training and not return if they have one or more observable signs of concussion or have any concussion symptoms present (for example: headaches; confusion; nausea)
Our protocol
We closely follow all guidance issued by the RFU. Players suspected of having concussion will be:
- Removed from play immediately;
- Advised to be assessed by a health care professional within 24 hours of the incident;
- Advised to rest and sleep
We will not:
- Leave the player unaccompanied in the first 24 hours (If friends / family are not available)
