HAC RFC Inclusivity Statement
Following recent events and subsequent global protests, the Honourable Artillery Company RFC called unscheduled virtual committee meetings on Tuesday 9th June and Tuesday 16th June 2020 to address the issues of race and inclusivity within the club. This is a topic which does not exist solely on the news but permeates every corner of society – including the lives of our members.
As such, we have a duty to our members and supporters – both present and future – to create a demonstrably inclusive environment in which everyone feels welcome and can revel in being part of our club, regardless of race or any other characteristic.
As a club we believe that black lives matter and we want all of our members, especially those who have felt marginalised or affected by recent events, to feel heard and supported. We share the desire for greater equality in our society and we intend on starting this within our own community.
Whether on or off the field, whether overt or subtle, the club will not tolerate instances of racism or any other forms of discrimination.
Simply not tolerating this behaviour, however, is the bare minimum; we strive to surpass that. We acknowledge that sharing a well-meaning message does not, in itself, constitute a tangible expression of our values; we will continue to listen, reflect and learn as a club. We look forward to sharing more detailed information on what initiatives we will launch in due course.
No club is perfect, but we can and will improve – we must not wait to make a difference.
